Liga MB Round 12: Brujos defeat Santa Tecla- May 10, 2021
The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
Fantasmas - Aguila 72-84 The game in San Vicente was also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Aguila (6-7) played at the court of 7th ranked Fantasmas (2-12). Aguila defeated Fantasmas 84-72 on Thursday. They outrebounded Fantasmas 51-39 including 17 on the offensive glass. Aguila looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The winners were led by Cuban Oreste Torres (204-87) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 24 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists and Lee Vasquez (177-91) supported him with 24 points, 5 assists and 6 steals. Four Aguila players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 20 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks by American forward Harrison Rieger (193-98) did not help to save the game for Fantasmas. Guard Carlos Sorto (185-97) added 17 points and 9 rebounds. Aguila maintains fifth position with 6-7 record. Fantasmas lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with 12 games lost. Visitors were defeated by sixth ranked Brujos (6-8) 87-80. Brujos looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Brujos made 13 blocks. It was a good game for Guyanese-American power forward Anthony Moe (207-90, college: Millersville) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 23 rebounds and 7 blocks. Cuban point guard Osmel Oliva (180-87) contributed with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Brujos' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Puerto Rican forward Owens Perez (203-92) replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 20 rebounds and 8 assists and Venezuelan forward Darwin Jaramillo (192-86) added 19 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Santa Tecla. Four Santa Tecla players scored in double figures. Brujos maintains sixth position with 6-8 record. Defending champion Santa Tecla still keeps top place with two games lost. San Salvador shot the lights out from three sinking 19 long-distance shots on high 51.4 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. It was a good game for American-Puerto Rican forward Julian Torres (206-97, college: LSUA) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). American Chris Blake (195-88, college: Detroit) contributed with 34 points (!!!) and 7 assists for the winners. Four San Salvador players scored in double figures. American forward Jose Ortiz (190-90, college: DelVal) replied with 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Marcus Feagin (192-91) added 13 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Chalchuapa. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. San Salvador have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Santa Ana. Chalchuapa lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Third ranked Santa Ana had an easy win 121-82. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Cojute. Santa Ana dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Cojute's 50. They shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. Santa Ana players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. American players dominated the game. Worth to mention a great performance of center Marc Montavious (206-90, college: Georgetown, KY) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 24 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists and Eddie Ishman (196-86, college: Miles) who added 21 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists during the contest. Five Santa Ana players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was swingman Andravious Smith (196-95, college: Tougaloo) with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 21 rebounds and Shahmel Brackett (183-91, college: UNCP) scored 22 points and 9 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Santa Ana have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with San Salvador. Cojute at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Brujos forced 19 Fantasmas turnovers and outrebounded them 56-30 including a 21-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. The best player for the winners was Guyanese-American power forward Anthony Moe (207-90, college: Millersville) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. It was a good game for Cuban Oreste Torres (204-87) who led his team to a victory with 30 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Lee Vasquez (177-91) contributed with 20 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Five Aguila players scored in double figures. American forward Jose Ortiz (190-90, college: DelVal) replied with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists and his fellow American import forward Marcus Feagin (192-91) added 14 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Chalchuapa.
